McDonald’scorporation has more than 32,000 restaurants in 118 countries. That is a powerful brand name with global exposure.HOWEVER, 34% of revenue came from the US, and 42% came from Europe, and 18% from Asia, the Pacific region and the Middle East.
I am just plain surprised that Europe eats more of that junk than America does.
Any ideas of how that is happening?(I dont’ have an answer, just ran across the statistic and was surprised)

maybe because we have to pay more than you for a burger….and i don’t like McDonalds, its not eatable, jakkes. I prefer Burger King, they are much better, but maybe one’s a year i eat a burger at BK, so i don’t understand the statistics.
Mc Donald’s is the worst! We have 5 of them in our small town. They are everywhere!
This summer I was walking on the St Georges Bridge in Prag, it is THE landmark in Prag. It is a beautiful old pedestrian bridge over the Vltava river in the old town part of the city. It was packed with people, street performers, artists, ect…and what do I see when I reach the other side?
Mc Donalds.
Complete with a giant plastic golden “M.”
@sam, that’s terrible….i know that bridge and its beautiful, have jou been to the old town???? I loved Prag, but it is a long time ago when i was there.
Well they say about Holland that we are ‘Americanizing’; the culture, the stores and the food. But maybe we’re to good at it?!
(we never go to MacDonalds btw..)
Well, SOMEBODY in Europe is eating McDonald’s!
I think they make all their money on ketchup. We don’t pay for ketchup in America.
Like you, I find the stats surprising. I have to admit, though, that about once a year, a Big mac is enjoyable. When we were in the south of France, we got shrimp salads at mac dee’s that were healthy and delicious. The food line in Europe may be different from ours here.
elmarstel- We we there for only a day, so we pretty much just walked the bridge, along the river and the old town. We ate dinner in a beautiful square surrounded by beautiful churches and old buildings.
Irish- In sweden, we have a few more “healthy” options at Mc D’s but, it is no where near as fresh as a local cafe.
I wonder what the stats are for how many Big Macs the Americans eat vs. the Europeans. Would be interesting to compare the other foods as well. Interesting post, it makes you think.
Also, not sure if this is true anymore, but when Thomas Friedman’s book, The Lexus and the Olive Tree came out (it’s been a few years), he had a stat in there that said that no 2 nations with a MacDonalds had ever waged war with each other! There is some good that come out of that kitchen
Not strange at all! Have you ever been to any eastern european countries? Well their food is scary, their restaurants not so clean. McDonalds seems like a great option!
Irish: they do customize the menu to the region. I wish we could get shrimp salad here.
Shie:….hmmmm makes me wonder why we don’t just set up a McDonalds in Bagdad and bring our boys home.
I am pretty sure the different countries in former Yugoslavia áll had McD. But what do I know?
